Organizations that get diversity right reap tremendous benefits that ripple across the company culture and eventually lead to an indisputable impact on the bottom line. But robust, resilient diversity in the workplace thrives only when members of the majority group actively educate and challenge each other. Based on twenty years of pioneering workshops engaging white male leaders in transforming their own mindsets, building leadership skills, and creating powerful partnerships at work and at home, Four Days to Change follows a group of men embarking in a life-changing process to broaden their view of the world and lead them into more authentic relationships across race, gender, and sexual orientation. Witness the kinds of conversations that have opened the eyes of thousands of white male leaders, freeing them to benefit from more inclusive, authentic partnerships in the workplace and at home.

I enjoyed this because it was an easy read on what can be a tough subject. It felt like I was sitting in on the sessions myself at various points during the book. As a black man it was informative to get a perspective I don't often experience, even after years of men's groups and work with predominantly white crowds. My guess is that this could really help many men, especially white men, to understand what all this talk about diversity, equity and inclusion really means. With chapters focused on gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. it provides a great way to understand and then process one's perspective on the issue to see how it might impact those around them.

This was a well written informative book. I learned a lot and found the book to be very entertaining.
A highly insightful, quick and easy read.
Here is a significant book, Four Days to Change, by Michael Welp, that every woman needs to read and share with men. The subtitle explains the prize you receive 12 Radical Habits to Overcome Bias and Thrive in a Diverse World. Dr. Welp takes us through his early journey as a white man to address his own “don’t have a clue” mindset. As a woman of color I breathed a sigh of relief thinking “I don’t have to work as hard now; I can just give this book as a gift.”

It is a comprehensive story of how Dr. Welp and his colleague, Bill Proudman, facilitated multiple circles of white men who discovered a safe place to discuss race, gender, sexual orientation and other issues that challenged them. Each chapter takes this cohort of white men through topics that challenge, creating growth and self-awareness in them as individuals and as a group. This content is taken from composite experiences of white men who have attended these sessions and is credited by Catalyst’s research in making a positive change for individuals and organizations.

In this world of fear and division, this book is timely and it stands with foundational books on any diversity and inclusion bookshelf. Purchase, read and change; it deserves to be included on any D&I recommended list of books as an academic, corporate, nonprofit, community organization resource.
Surprising perspectives and yet oh so familiar. Good eye opener for white women as well as white men.
As a woman I appreciate and applaud these (and all) high status men who are willing to be open to aspects of their impact on others that they might not be aware of. This book describe 12 specific and very useful concepts in a way that engages and empowers the men who take this program to heart. Kudos.
I found this book to be enlightening. I’m a seasoned diversity and inclusion professional and appreciate Michael’s tone and the ability to address subject matter that many find uncomfortable. His approach allows readers and participants to experience a wide range of emotions and to do so in a non-judgmental, accepting way while giving a gentle push to challenge and think differently. The book is engaging and easy to read. Highly recommend.
Talking about bias - such as racism, sexism, xenophobia, etc - is difficult to explain in person. It's even more difficult to convey the subtleties in writing. This book tells us that bias shapes our worldview and that our worldview can not only influence our own abilities to have a fulfilling life, but also the opportunities of others. The book takes a complex and difficult topic and distills it into concepts that are easy to understand and accept. Even if you only have time to read 2 chapters, do it. It'll change how you see things for the better.
